Royal Adventure Theme

Kings, and Queens and Dragons....oh, my!  Trying to find ideas based on a castle theme is rather hard, because it has not been used too many times.  When people think of this theme, they think of prince and princesses and believe that it is too girly.  However, I have found quite the contrary.  Although this theme appeals to all of the female students, it can cater to the males as well.
I actually had this theme for my preschool classes one year and had a wonderful time with it.  All you need to do is let your imagination run wild and you will be sure to create a spectacular vision for your children to enter everyday.

I began looking at renaissance and medieval websites and realized that banners were commonly used.  I immediately came to the realization that I could make simple banners out of precut felt sheets from the fabric store.  These banners could be used for the children's cubbies/lockers, for labeling centers or interest areas, and also for on the classroom door.
Classroom Decor

Create banners out of felt and label them with glitter glue or fabric paint.  Use stencils for pictures and letters , if you wish.
Create knights, dragons, princesses, princes, fairies, jesters, magicians from clip art or your school cutting system.
Create a banner for your classroom door saying....(your name)'s Castle
Create a sign in the front of your room or lobby and say.....The Kingdom of (your school name).
Design a reading area that says... Fired up about reading (of course with a fire breathing dragon along with it.)
... Reading can take you to magical places. (with a fairy or magician with it.)
                                                   ...

Incentives Board...............Decorate a wall of board to look like a castle wall.  Have a tower with a window on your castle with a braid of yarn coming out of the window.  This is to represent Rapunzel's hair.   Have a prince standing at the bottom of the braid of yarn.  When the whole class has had a great day, move the prince up the ladder of hair.  When he has reached the top, the children will receive a reward.

...............Start building a castle wall, but do not complete it, the children can finish building the wall through there behavior.  You can do it individually or as a class.
